Areas and Widgets

What is a widget?

A Widget is an editable component on a page.

This is a Rich Text Widget. Rich Text in Apostrophe is powered by the incredible tiptap editor. A Rich Text widget can be configured to support a variety of formatting options and text styles out of the box, and can be further extended to do just about anything you can think of!

Other types of widgets include images, videos, buttons, and anything else you'd want to create. Hover over this paragraph and click the + button below to see the available widgets that have been configured for this demo site.

All of these Widgets are contained inside something we call an Area. An Area is a flexible part of your page template that can be configured to hold a variety of editable Widgets.

Areas can even be nested inside of other areas to create powerful dynamic layout engines.

There's an empty area to the right of this column. If you're looking at this page in Edit mode, you'll see an Add Content button that's ready and waiting for you to fill the column with beautiful content.

Next, let's check out the other types of content you can create and manage with Apostrophe.
